Overburn a CD with Nero

Overburning is the process of recording data past the normal size limit.
When the data to be burnt is greater than the size of the disc then data is overburnt to the disc.
Here is a step by step procedure to overburn a CD using Nero-

Open Nero Burning ROM-

In the Options window, select Expert Features(1) and check the Enable overburn disc-at-once(2).

Choose a Maximum CD Length(3) and click OK(4) (*82:59:59 is the maximum value I suggest, but as you can see from the screen capture above I have set mine significantly higher. The reason is because I frequently use 90min 800 MB CD media).

A window will appear when you have exceeded expected length, click OK to start the overburn copy.

Remember to set disk to burn Disc at Once, you cannot overburn in Track at Once Mode.

Remove autorun.inf manually

so i will tell u how to remove autorun.inf virus which is cause of opening
of your drives in separate window when u click on the drive name in my computer

There is a Trojan/virus (either the Win32/Pacex virus or the Win32/PSW.Agent.NDP trojan) that uses those two files. Here is how you can get rid of them:

1) Open up Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del)
2) If wscript.exe is running, end it.
3) If explorer.exe is running, end it.
4) Open up “File | New Task (Run)” in the Task manager
5) Run cmd
6) Run the following command del #:\autorun.* /f/a/s/q with other drives in turn

where # is replaced by drive name e.g-c,d,e etc

SPEED UP UR ACROBAT READER (ALMOST LIKE NOTEPAD)

Do u get irritated when acrobat reader takes 5/10 seconds to load when you want to open a pdf document. There is a way to speed up the loading.

1. Go to the installation folder of acrobat reader
(C:\program files\adobe\acrobat\reader\.. whatever)

2. Move all the files and folders from the "plugins" directory to the "Optional" directory. (I repeat.. cut and paste the files NOT copy & paste).

Also make sure that acrobat reader is not open else it will lock the files and not allow you to move the files).

Now your acrobat reader will load very fast
and almost as good as notepad..

Bing Vs. Google ....who is better ...

Microsoft’s new Bing search engine, boosted by $100 million in marketing, quickly grabbed a 16 percent market share and is second to Google now (at 71 percent).

And the joke has started:

Q: “What does ‘Bing’ stand for?”
A: “But It’s Not Google.”

(We think that can be credited to the long-running blog (Jan. 2002) of author Seth Godin. http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2009/05/the-next-google.html).

Playing on the rivalry, somebody at a company that lists an address in Zagreb, Croatia, has put up an interesting site: Bing Vs. Google ( http://www.bing-vs-google.com/ )

The site offers an edit box for your search term, then shows the results of the two search engines side-by-side. Cute.

Secure your Gmail

Hi folks, the topic for this post is security - and how to secure your gmail.

Gmail is the only famous free mailing service that has the HTTPS capability, even after logging in - however, I don't really know why, but it is not enabled by default. How many have you have enabled it?

"What? Why do I need security, I am a normal internet user. I have a firewall, and who the hell is going to check my mails."

Yeah, I guess thats the question one may ask me. So, lets see... I guess many of us have used wireless connections... and unfortunately, most of them are uhm, completely insecure. Any guy who has a minimum knowledge of this issue can trace the packets on the air and know what communication is going on. There are several tools - I myself use the BackTrack kit - and the scary part is most of them are FREE and exteremely easy to use.

So, next time you use your personal mails at a WiFi Hotspot, just know you may not be the only one watching you. Recently I attended a security conference and I got the statistical evidence that about 70% of the WiFi Hotspots and WiFi zones are completely insecure. That took my breath away.

Next, wired connections are just as insecure, if not more. If not more? Well, yeah, thats about an interesting research thats going on about it. I will cover than in detail in another post. Now, lets see how to secure your Gmail - it just takes 3 steps.

Securing your Gmail is quite easy.
1. Login to Gmail first, use https://mail.google.com/mail
2. Next, go to Settings
3. Select Always use https under Browser Connections.
Save the changes, and you are done.

Windows Symptom: Windows won't start or crashes frequently

In the Windows Device Manager, a yellow question mark signifies that the hardware device's driver isn't working properly.Minor problem: The best-case scenario is that a patch clobbered your system. If you authorize Windows Update to apply patches automatically, key Windows files may change without your knowledge or consent. Fortunately, whenever a patch or update gets applied--even if you manually replace a driver (by far the most common source of instability)--the installer creates a system checkpoint, so it's easy to roll back the offending patch. If you're running XP, you can try using the System Restore feature to restore your PC to a state it was in before things stopped working. Otherwise, restart your computer, and as soon as you hear the PC beep (indicating the completion of its power-on self-test, or POST), press F8 and choose Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked).

Moderate problem: If reverting to the last known good configuration doesn't help, a piece of hardware or system software has probably gone belly-up. To investigate, you should crawl around your system using Safe Mode--a special minimally functional way of running Windows that bypasses your start-up programs; ignores essentially all hardware except your keyboard, mouse, and monitor; and avoids your fancy graphics driver (frequently a source of problems). To start in Safe Mode, reboot, wait for your system to finish the POST, press F8, and then choose Safe Mode. To check for hardware problems using Windows Device Manager, choose Start, Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, System, click the Hardware tab, and click the Device Manager button. Any devices that appear with a question mark are immediately suspect: Double-click each to follow up. To uninstall any recently installed (and therefore suspect) software, click Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs. When you feel that it's safe to go back into the water, restart your computer and then allow it to boot normally.

Dire problem: So you've tried Safe Mode, and nothing helps. Maybe one of your Windows system files has the hiccups. Before you reformat your hard drive, run a Repair. To do this, boot from your Windows XP CD; when given the choice 'To set up Windows XP now', press Enter. Accept the license agreement. Then, 'To repair the selected Windows XP installation', press R. Windows reinstalls all of its files and then restarts. Once your PC is running again, confirm that your firewall is working, go to Windows Update (Start, All Programs, Windows Update), and download and install all the patches your system requires.

Restore accidentally deleted from your computer by Recuva

Accidentally deleted data from your hard disk? No Problem dear...
Here is a solution to retrieve them by Recuva. By Recuva you can retrieve data even if you delete them by suing SHIFT+DELETE key. We generally think that by using SHIFT+DEL data may lost permanently. But it's wrong. But Recuva you can!

Recuva (pronounced "recover") is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses!

Recuva supports:
► FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, NTFS5 , NTFS + EFS file systems
► Restores files from removable media (SmartMedia, Secure Digital, MemoryStick, Digital cameras, Floppy disks, Jaz Disks, Sony Memory Sticks, Compact Flash cards, Smart Media Cards, Secure Digital Cards, etc.)
► Can be run from a USB thumb drive
► It's fast, tiny and takes seconds to run!

► Select drive
► Click on Scan
► Select files which you want to recover
► Click on Recover
► Save it.

Make sure that it is better to recover files as quick as possible when you accidentally deleted. Because newly updated data may over write on deleted data space. This results incorrect backup of your lost files.

How To Speed Up Windows Vista And Windows XP

You may find that most of the time that computers that are loaded with data and softwares often become slow. This problem can be solved to a large extent just by increasing the virtual memory. Here is a very simple and easy way to the increase your virtual memory on your Windows Vista or XP.

How does increasing virtual memory speed up my computer?

Pagefile.sys is a windows system file which acts as a virtual memory extension of a computer’s RAM. Normally Pagefile.sys is set to the same size as your physical memory as it consumes a large amount of hard disk space. However, if you have hard disk space to spare, you can further increase the allocated memory to optimize your system speed by just turning off ‘Automatically manage Paging file Generation’ and providing higher custom values.

Note: If the size of your RAM is 512 mb or less please do not turn off ’Automatically manage Paging file Generation’ as your system is likely to crash.

How to increase speed up your Windows Vista PC:

(If you run Windows XP on your computer, scroll down a bit)

1. Go to ‘Control Panel’ and open ‘System’.

2. Now click on advanced system settings on the top left-hand corner of the screen and give permission to open it.

3. Now click ‘Setting’ under Performance on the new window.

4. Click on the ‘Advance’ tab under which click on a ‘Change’.

5. Now uncheck the box which say ‘Automatically manage paging file size for all drives’. Now click ‘Custom size’ and put the Initial size as the size of your RAM and Maximum size as 1.5 times the size of your RAM.

6. Now just restart your computer and see the difference.

How to speed up your Windows XP system:

Increasing the speed of your Windows XP PC is quite similar to how you do it on Windows Vista. Read on.

1. Go to ‘Control Panel’ and open ‘System’.

2. Now click the Advance’ tab then click on ‘Settings’ under Performance.

3. Click on the ‘Advance’ tab under which click on a ‘Change’.

4.Now click custom size and put the initial size as the size of your RAM and maximum size as 1.5 times the size of your RAM.

5. Now just restart your computer.

These is the simplest and easiest way to increase the speed of your Windows computer without spending any money at all on better hardware, softwares etc.

Seven Must-do Tasks

1- Cleaning of Data Storage Medium:

Clean the hard disk of all types of junk files. This can be done at night or alongside your daily work. Download CCleaner and install it with standard settings. Subsequently, the tool starts and clears the hard disk of any junk data. You can choose from Windows or applications in the cleaner settings under which there are a range of diverse file options

2- Defragmentation

Defragmentation is a part of hard disk cleaning. The data storage medium cleaning and defragmentation cannot start simultaneously. This is best done at night because you should not work on your PC when defragmentation is in process. Moreover, data fragmentation must not be carried out too frequently. Windows provides its own tool yet I’m not recommend it but it’s just enough and no more. Try the free IOBit SmartDefrag.

3- Virus Scan

The scan should always run in the background; this is provided by almost all virus scanners.
Updates regularly and scan manually at least once a week.

4- Windows Update

Always update the operating system for security and stability reasons.

5- Anti-Spyware

Like the virus scanner, anti-spyware should always run in the background despite a regular updates and weekly manual scan by user.

6- Backup

Avoid crises of hard disk crash with backup that can be run at night.

7- Data Synchronization

Before a meeting, business travelers need not spend two hours on the laptop synchronizing data. Instead update data regularly.

How Secure is the Windows Firewall?

windows firewall

Since Service Pack 2 of XP, each new version of Windows already has a firewall on board. But what is the Microsoft Firewall suited for?

Windows XP
Microsoft felt compelled to do something about the security of their operating system only after the Blaster 2003 worm massacred Windows computer. Unfortunately, the XP firewall cannot do much either. Even simple things such as checking the outgoing connections do not work. But nevertheless, the programs protects against worm attacks. That at least helps temporarily when you are unprotected, before you get a real firewall and Windows updates.

Windows Vista
For the first time ever, Microsoft developed an “Out-Bound-Firewall” for Vista to check the outgoing connections as well. However, since many inexperienced users had problems in the beta test with this function and certain programs, this feature was immediately deactivated. However, you can bring the enhanced functions back to life: Enter “Windows Firewall with Advanced Security” in the program search of the Vista start menu in order to open the detailed settings menu on your screen. Note that the Vista firewall is not as safe and comfortable as its commercial contemporaries.

How to Search Better in Gmail

I’m big on getting things done, and searching through thousands of emails can sorta, kinda set you back. You can get things done searching quicker by using these easy search tips in Gmail.

How to use these

The first thing you all should know is that you insert these operators into the search box right at the top of your
screen.

Basic Operators

from:

What it does: Specifies the sender.

Example: from:John Doe would find all your emails that are from John Doe.

to:

What it does: Specifies the receiver.

Example: to:Alex Hwang would find all your emails that were sent to Alex Hwang.

You probably won’t ever need this one unless you have multiple email addresses controlled in Gmail.

subject:

What it does: Searches for words in the Subject line

Example: subject:Meeting would find all your emails that have meeting in the subject line.
This one is extremely useful because most of the time you remember subjects, because that’s what you stare at on the home page.

Basic Search Formatters

OR:

What it does: Allows you to specify multiple queries, matching term A OR term B

Example: from:John Doe OR from:Alex will give you search results from John and Alex.

-(hyphen):

What it does: Allows you to exclude messages from search, if you don’t want them.

Example: dinner -Amy searches messages that contain dinner, but not Amy.

” ” (quotes):

What it does: Allows you to search exact phrases.

Example: subject:”movie with Amy” will search for messages with the exact subject, movie with Amy.

():

What it does: Allows you to group words used to specify terms that shouldn’t be excluded.

Example: subject:(english science) will search for messages with both english and science in them.

These are some of the basic operators for Gmail. There are a lot more here, at Gmail Help. I hope I got some of you started in searching through your big pile of messages in your inbox. :)
