You may find that most of the time that computers that are loaded with data and softwares often become slow. This problem can be solved to a large extent just by increasing the virtual memory. Here is a very simple and easy way to the increase your virtual memory on your Windows Vista or XP.
How does increasing virtual memory speed up my computer?
Pagefile.sys is a windows system file which acts as a virtual memory extension of a computer’s RAM. Normally Pagefile.sys is set to the same size as your physical memory as it consumes a large amount of hard disk space. However, if you have hard disk space to spare, you can further increase the allocated memory to optimize your system speed by just turning off ‘Automatically manage Paging file Generation’ and providing higher custom values.
Note: If the size of your RAM is 512 mb or less please do not turn off ’Automatically manage Paging file Generation’ as your system is likely to crash.
